Stop by the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, where the massive stone blocks that form the walls of this site provide an impressive picture of how greatly developed Inca engineering was. Visit the Chichubamba community to gain a greater insight into the local lifestyle with a traditional Andean lunch and a visit to a local workshop, either making pottery or chocolate and corn beer. Continue on to Ollantaytambo, a magnificent example of Incan urban planning and the perfect warm up for Machu Picchu. Explore Ollantaytambo's archaeological site with an expert local guide who will discuss the evidence of the Incas' engineering skills in the ruins of ancient aqueducts, irrigation canals, dams on the Urubamba River, imposing sets of terraces and centres of worship dedicated to Pachamama (Mother Earth). High, domed windows offer up unbelievable views of the Andes, allowing you to sit back in comfort and take it all in. The train also features an open air observation carriage so you can completely immerse yourself in the remarkable landscape \u2013 have your camera ready as this scenic journey will be one worth remembering. Disembark the train in Aguas Calientes then take a short bus ride up the winding road to Machu Picchu, where you will be joined by a guide who will take you through the ruins and tell you stories of its history and the ancestral people of the region. The true purpose behind Machu Picchu may always be a mystery, since no historical records of the complex exist. Most archaeologists, however, believe it to be the 15th-century headquarters of Emperor Pachacuti. Due to visiting restrictions at Machu Picchu, we recommend exploring the Sun Gate and Inka Bridge before your guided tour starts. Your leader can advise how to get the most out of your visit. Later, take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes to spend the night before heading back up to Machu Picchu first thing in the morning for your second visit.","sort":6,"tour_id":3706,"ref_parts_id":"7","extra":{"meals":{"dinnersIncluded":0,"lunchesIncluded":0,"breakfastsIncluded":"1"},"accommodationList":{"description":"Tierra Viva Machu Picchu Hotel or similar","numberOfNights":"1"},"includedActivityList":[{"description":"Machu Picchu - Guided visit"},{"description":"Ollantaytambo - 360 degree train to Aguas Calientes"}],"optionalActivityList":{"price":{"#text":"380","@currency":"USD"},"description":"1 Day Inca Trail - Add-on (Must pre-book)"}}},{"id":38250,"created_at":"2021-03-16T18:24:50.000000Z","updated_at":"2022-05-24T20:13:41.000000Z","title":"Day 8: Cusco","image_url":null,"description":"Rise before the sun and take the winding road back up to incredible Machu Picchu. On your second visit, explore more of the extraordinary architecture of the many temples, palaces and living quarters. Looking at Machu Picchu as it sits against a backdrop of forested mountains is a truly breathtaking experience. Its mortar-free design is particularly earthquake resistant and the stones are so precisely cut that, to this day, not even a knife fits between them. You'll have time along the way to take any photos you may have missed yesterday. Take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, then catch a standard train back to Ollantaytambo. From here, you will make the drive back to Cusco for the evening.","sort":7,"tour_id":3706,"ref_parts_id":"8","extra":{"meals":{"dinnersIncluded":0,"lunchesIncluded":0,"breakfastsIncluded":"1"},"accommodationList":{"description":"San Agustin Plaza Hotel or similar","numberOfNights":"1"},"includedActivityList":{"description":"Machu Picchu - Second visit"},"optionalActivityList":[]}}],"destinations":[{"name":"Argentina","id":10},{"name":"Brazil","id":31},{"name":"Chile","id":46},{"name":"Peru","id":174}],"destinations_arr":[{"city":"","country":"Argentina"},{"city":"","country":"Brazil"},{"city":"","country":"Chile"},{"city":"","country":"Peru"}],"departures_arr":[{"month":"July 2022","items":[{"start":"2022-07-02","end":"2022-07-25","sortdate":20220702,"price":13766,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":13078,"month":"July 2022"}]},{"month":"September 2022","items":[{"start":"2022-09-03","end":"2022-09-26","sortdate":20220903,"price":14625,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":13894,"month":"September 2022"},{"start":"2022-09-17","end":"2022-10-10","sortdate":20220917,"price":14625,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":13894,"month":"September 2022"}]},{"month":"October 2022","items":[{"start":"2022-10-01","end":"2022-10-24","sortdate":20221001,"price":15795,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":15006,"month":"October 2022"},{"start":"2022-10-15","end":"2022-11-07","sortdate":20221015,"price":14065,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":13362,"month":"October 2022"}]},{"month":"November 2022","items":[{"start":"2022-11-04","end":"2022-11-27","sortdate":20221104,"price":14065,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":13362,"month":"November 2022"}]},{"month":"December 2022","items":[{"start":"2022-12-04","end":"2022-12-27","sortdate":20221204,"price":14065,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":13362,"month":"December 2022"}]},{"month":"January 2023","items":[{"start":"2023-01-08","end":"2023-01-31","sortdate":20230108,"price":15330,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":14564,"month":"January 2023"}]},{"month":"March 2023","items":[{"start":"2023-03-04","end":"2023-03-27","sortdate":20230304,"price":15330,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":14564,"month":"March 2023"},{"start":"2023-03-25","end":"2023-04-17","sortdate":20230325,"price":15330,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":14564,"month":"March 2023"}]},{"month":"April 2023","items":[{"start":"2023-04-08","end":"2023-05-01","sortdate":20230408,"price":15330,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":14564,"month":"April 2023"}]},{"month":"May 2023","items":[{"start":"2023-05-06","end":"2023-05-29","sortdate":20230506,"price":15940,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":15143,"month":"May 2023"},{"start":"2023-05-13","end":"2023-06-05","sortdate":20230513,"price":15940,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":15143,"month":"May 2023"}]},{"month":"June 2023","items":[{"start":"2023-06-03","end":"2023-06-26","sortdate":20230603,"price":16555,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":15728,"month":"June 2023"}]},{"month":"July 2023","items":[{"start":"2023-07-01","end":"2023-07-24","sortdate":20230701,"price":16555,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":15728,"month":"July 2023"}]},{"month":"August 2023","items":[{"start":"2023-08-05","end":"2023-08-28","sortdate":20230805,"price":16555,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":15728,"month":"August 2023"}]},{"month":"September 2023","items":[{"start":"2023-09-02","end":"2023-09-25","sortdate":20230902,"price":16555,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":15728,"month":"September 2023"},{"start":"2023-09-16","end":"2023-10-09","sortdate":20230916,"price":15940,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":15143,"month":"September 2023"},{"start":"2023-09-30","end":"2023-10-23","sortdate":20230930,"price":15940,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":15143,"month":"September 2023"}]},{"month":"October 2023","items":[{"start":"2023-10-14","end":"2023-11-06","sortdate":20231014,"price":15330,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":14564,"month":"October 2023"}]},{"month":"November 2023","items":[{"start":"2023-11-03","end":"2023-11-26","sortdate":20231103,"price":15330,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":14564,"month":"November 2023"}]},{"month":"December 2023","items":[{"start":"2023-12-03","end":"2023-12-26","sortdate":20231203,"price":15330,"currency_code":"AUD","member_discount_price":14564,"month":"December 2023"}]}],"tour_type":2,"type_id":2,"style_rating":"Premium","ref_url":"https:\/\/www.intrepidtravel.com\/trips\/GGPRC"}} catch (error) {}
